Koh Kong is located in the Kingdom of Cambodia only a short 20 min journey from the Eastern border with Thailand. It is located approx 1.5 hrs from Trat, and only 6 hrs from Bangkok or Pattaya.

Getting to Koh Kong

Visitors traveling to KohKong from Bangkok ( Ekamai or Morchit ) or Pattaya by Bus will arrive at the Trat Bus Terminal located 1.5 Km outside of Trat Town, From the Bus station a minibus departs approx every 30 min (from 7 am till 6 pm) to the Thai / Cambodian border town of Ban Hat Lek. A one way trip will cost 120 Baht and will take approx 1.5 hrs

After arriving at Ban Hat Lek, one has to cross the border. A Visa is necessary to enter the Kingdom of Cambodia. With Fluctuating exchange Rates, the visa fee at present is approx 1200 Baht for a 1 Month Tourist Visa. (If you don’t have a photograph to go along with your visa application, you have to pay an additional 100 Baht). After the visa formalities, Motor Bike Taxi or Cars are available at the Border for the 20 min journey into Koh Kong

The Cambodian Riel is the official tender (Exchange Rate US $1=~4000 Riel ( February 2008 )), but the USD is the
defacto currency. In KohKong you can also pay with Thai Baht, as well as USD. On the Market (See City Map), there is a Bank (which offers Western Union services).

KohKong is the gateway to Cambodia, so from here it is easy to travel further into the Kingdom. A ferry departs every morning at 8 am to the Seaside town of Shinaoukville, arriving approx 4 hours later. Many guesthouses and hotels sell tickets for the ferry (Price approx 700 Baht or 20 USD). For travel to Phnom Phen (The Capital of Cambodia), minibuses, shared or private taxis are available a kilometer out of the town centre. (See City Map). The trip will take you approx 5-6 hrs. If you have any questions ask your local guesthouse or expats with local knowledge for assistance, they are more then willing to help to make your stay in Koh Kong and The Kingdom of Cambodia a pleasant and enjoyable one.

Getting around:

If you want to travel around town Motor Bike Taxi’s (or Motodop or Moto as they are known locally) are available anywhere and will drive you around town for a fixed price of 20 Baht or 2000 Riel. If you want to go outside of the town, make sure that you fix the price before you set off. If you want to drive yourself and explore the wildlife in and around Koh Kong, there are many places that rent out Motor Bikes (100 or 125cc) or even the Bigger Dirt Bikes (250cc and up) for as little as 150 Baht or 4 USD a day.
